International Workshop on Strongly Coupled Light-Matter Interactions: Models and Applications, 26-29 April 2019, Hangzhou, China

The most simple and fundamental model describing light-matter interaction is the Rabi model proposed by I. I. Rabi in the 1930’s. This model describes semi-classically the dipolar interaction of a nuclear spin with electromagnetic radiation. In the more than 80 years since it was proposed, this semi-classical model and its full quantum version, known as the quantum Rabi model, continue to attract great attention in the communities of quantum optics and condensed matter physics, as well as in interdisciplinary related fields. On one hand, the ultra-strong and deep-strong coupling regimes have been reached experimentally in many different devices. On the other hand, the physical and mathematical understanding of the quantum Rabi model and related models has been deepened due to the development of analytic solutions and progress in capturing the wavefunctions accurately for all regimes. Such progress has opened the door to some fascinating interplay between physics, mathematics and technology.

In 2016, Journal of Physics A published a special issue collection of articles on Semi-classical and quantum Rabi models by Guest Editors: Daniel Braak, Qing-Hu Chen, Murray Batchelor, Enrique Solano, see http://iopscience.iop.org/journal/1751-8121/page/Semi-classical-and-quantum- Rabi-models, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Rabi model. In the same year, an International Workshop on Ultra-Strong Light-Matter Interactions: Theory and Applications to Quantum Information was held on 19-21 September 2016 in Bilbao, Spain.

Previous workshops held in China on these topics were: Mini-Workshop on the Quantum Rabi Model, 28-29 April 2014, Chongqing; The Second Rabi Models Workshop, 15-18 April 2016, Hangzhou; Workshop on the Rabi Model, Strong Light-Matter Interactions and Other Quantum Phenomena in CQED Platforms, 5-9 December 2017, Beijing; International Workshop on Strongly Coupled Light-Matter Interactions: Models and Applications, 7-9 July 2018, Lanzhou, China.

This Workshop can be seen as a continuation of the previous series of workshops. It aims to gather the growing community working in the interdisciplinary related fields to present recent research highlights and to further consolidate this promising and technologically important research area.

To apply for a contributed talk or attendance, please send an email before 15 April, 2019 to the address qhchen@zju.edu.cn including your name, affiliation, and a title and short abstract if you apply for a contributed talk.

No registration fee is required. No hotel fee is provided. We can help book a hotel around the Yuquan Campus, which is very close to the famous West Lake.

ARRIVAL:

From Hangzhou International Airport

(1)  From Hangzhou International Airport (HGH) to the Yuquan campus of Zhejiang Univ., it takes about one hour by taxi or shuttle. Taking a taxi is the most convenient way to get around the city.

(2)  By Taxi: Follow the “taxi” sign on the indicator in the airport. Do NOT go with those persons who approach you and claim to have taxi in nearby places. The total cost is about 200 CNY including the highway toll fees (15 CNY), and no tips are required.

(3)  By Shuttle: Shuttle runs every 15 minutes between ~8:00 am and midnight. Just follow the “shuttle” sign on the indicator. You will need a ticket from the counter and the cost is 20-30 CNY per person. Take the direction to either Wulinmen (武林门) or Huanglong (黄龙)and get off at the last station. You may still need to take a taxi at the arriving station in order to get to the Yuquan campus or the Hotels.

From Shanghai Hongqiao or Pudong airport

(1)  From Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA), the most convenient way is to take the high-speed rail to Hangzhou. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is ~15 minutes walk from the airport, and it may cost about one Hour to arrive at either Hangzhou Railway Station or Hangzhou East Railway Station. For the transportation from the railway stations in Hangzhou, please see below.

(2)  From Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), it is best to take a shuttle to Hangzhou. The shuttle runs at every hour during 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, and it takes approximately 3 hours to arrive at Wulinmen (武林门) in Hangzhou. You may still need to take a taxi at the arriving station in order to get to the Yuquan campus or the Hotels.

From Hangzhou Railway stations

(1)  From Hangzhou Railway station or Hangzhou East Railway Station, it takes about 30 minites by taxi to either Yuquan campus or the Hotels.

(2)  By Taxi: Follow the “taxi” sign on the indicator at the railway station. Do NOT go with those persons who approach you and claim to have taxi in nearby places. The total cost is about 50 CNY, and no tips are required.
