Zhejiang University Won Second Prize in the 5th China Undergraduate Physicistsí» Tournament (CUPT)

The 5th China Undergraduate Physicists’ Tournament (CUPT) was held in Huazhong University of Science and Technology from August 18th to 23rd, 2014. Thirty-nine famous  universities in mainland China participated in this tournament, including Peking University, Nankai University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, etc. After five rounds of fierce competitions, the team from Zhejiang University won the Second Prize, ranking seventh in total score.



The team from Zhejiang University consists of five brilliant students, namely Li Heqiu, Ji Ziming, Liu Mengke, Zhang Wenhao, and Meng Xiandong. Their solid theoretical knowledge, experimental skills and excellent spot performances won them unanimous praise from the judges of the tournament, and this achievement is closely related to the industrious guidance from their tutors like Bao Desong, Yang Bo, Tan Qiuming, Wang Yewu, Zhao Daomu, etc.

China Undergraduate Physicists Tournament (CUPT) is a national competition held in the mode of International Young Physicists Tournament (IYPT). It is supported by the Ministry of Education, and belongs to one of the important creative competitions for university students which is the application of the National Long-term Education Development Plan. CUPT is a physics competition in the form of team debating and competition, involving undergraduate students, and is hosted by universities in China. CUPT gets rid of the exam-oriented mode of education, seeks the combination of knowledge learning and practice exploring, connecting physics and daily life, academic ability and interpersonal communication, and it also emphasizes the concept of combining individual effort and team collaboration. The unique mode and innovative concepts of CUPT are attracting more and more famous universities and elite students, and it has already become one of the most influential college students’ physics competitions in China.
