Abstract:
I will review the weak localization/antilocalization (WL/WAL) from the “Boltzmannian picture” which in principle are correct for all magnetic fields and all types/strengths of the spin-orbit interaction (SOI). Using the method of picking out all the closed paths using simple real space “Monte Carlo type” simulation, the famous analytical curvesof the WL/WAL magneto-conductance (MC) beyond the diffusive regime are perfectly reproduced. While our approach is completely equivalent tothe analytical model of the WL/WAL (the latter requires huge amount of computation), it is extremely fast and versatile for the quantitative analysis of the experimental MC data. The real space random walk simulation can also be applied to the top-down fabricated mesoscopic loop array (MLA) structures with submicron scale (≤ mean free path), i.e.an inhomogeneous system, just as perfectly, thereby the SOI parameters are extracted directly from the “dimensions (sizes)” of the MLA structures. We also discuss the application of the interbandRashba (i-Rashba) effect as the method to enhance the current-induced-spinpolarization (CISP) substantially. CISP is also termed as the Edelstein effect.
