Abstract:
After a brief introduction to Houston and American Physical Society, I will give you a quick overview of my current research of using optical techniques to explore physics and enable novel applications. Examples include solar water splitting, photocatalytic ammonia generation, magnetic alignment of graphene, effective media theory for atomically thin materials, and origins of luminescence centers in low dimensional lead halide perovskites. I will then focus on two recent works. I will first show you graphene laser propulsion and the discovery and applications of photoacoustic laser streaming. I will then share with you a revolutionary optical technique to map and measure the thermal conductivity of semiconductors.
