Officially endorsed in September 2018, Zhejiang Province Key Laboratory of Quantum Technology and Device focuses on both fundamental research and practical application of quantum science, in particular in the field of quantum computing, quantum simulation and quantum metrology. The experiments in the Laboratory are based on various quantum systems, such as superconducting circuits, topological superconductors, cold atoms and cold molecules, magnons in ferromagnetic materials, thermal atomic vapors, etc. The Laboratory aims at combining condensed matter physics, quantum optics, opto-electronics and material sciences to achieve practical quantum computing. On the way to this goal, we develop technology in controlling and measuring quantum systems, and apply the techniques in simulating many-body Hamiltonians or performing super-sensitive quantum measurement. This will lead to quantum devices that can outperform their classical counterparts for many important and complex problems. The Laboratory also dedicates effort in applying quantum technology in biological study, e.g., quantum sensing of physical quantities in a subcellular level with nano quantum systems, super-resolving imagining techniques with squeezed or entangled light sources, etc. The interdisciplinary collaboration will cultivate the next generation of quantum technology and device that shall benefit our society and improve the quality of our life drastically.
